Summer Fun at the Cabin and Building with Family

Jennifer just finished up the season with the Golden Valley Orchestra. The final concert was outside at Brookview golf course and was attended by a large audience and live streamed all over the world.  The orchestra played a piece that Alya wrote for Jennifer as a mothers day present! It was wonderful and everyone loved it. We will share that piece in a video post later.

As we move into summer and school vacations we move to thoughts of lakes and cabins with family. The Becker family has a strong tradition of going to the family lake site on Pickerel lake in Wisconsin. The lake has long been a place of rest, relaxation, bonding and building for the family. Many times violins and new ideas were shared around the campfire, out fishing in the boat or over the lake side work bench at Pickerel.

We continue this tradition and will be at the lake this summer with family and friends. Nothing is better than music around a summer campfire while eating a dinner of fresh caught fish from the lake. The Becker family loves making music with nature and enjoying the great outdoors.

Did you know that everyone you interact with at Jennifer Becker Violins is family?

From Eric on the phones or at the front desk, to Alya working on instruments, continuing with Stephanie re-stringing bows and beginning sculpting new instruments. Then there is Jennifer and you. We feel our customers are part of our family. We make music that fills the world together and makes it a little better place to be.

Partnership with Shalom Michaeli and Jennifer Becker Violins

We are excited to introduce a new line of instruments we are carrying by Shalom Michaeli. To see them or  make an appointment by calling us at: 612-508-5739.

Violin N1 was built in 2007, full size, model of Hieronymus Amati.
Violin N2 built in 2011 – full size, Giuseppe Fiorini style.
Viola: 16 inch (406 mm)- model and copy of Pellegrino Micheli, one of the first makers of the Brescian school in Italy and a contemporary of Gasparo da Salò.

The instruments are adjusted following classical Italian system of tap tuning. Each area of the front and back plates are tuned separately and together to the specific tone to achieve resonance following classical traditions inherited from old Italian masters, i.e., Stradivari and Guarneri. The tuning of the instruments allow great flexibility to achieve necessary extraordinary tone of each note, full of power, colorful and distinct.

Take a look at our featured instrument for the month of November! It has quite the long history.
Made in Mittenwald, Germany in 1761 by Christoph Leissmiller, this violin has most of its original varnish and the unique feature of a hole in the back of the scroll. In the past musicians would use this hole to help store extra gut string.

Please stop in to see us over the holidays or  make an appointment by calling us at: 612-508-5739.

We have great new specials and lots of inventory.

Introducing our newest member of the family!

Meet Mike Johnson, the future owner of Jennifer’s #32.  It may just be a rough piece of wood now, but soon enough it’ll be carved out into a violin made to his specifications!

He came all the way from Oklahoma to handpick the wood we would use from our personal collection.  Custom making is Jennifer’s absolute favorite aspect of the job.  She interviews the future owner to discover the desired tone that they want, and has the measurements determined to maximize their comfort before the first cut is even made.
